Missional Communities

Covenant Church is seeking to be a collective of families who are on mission together in our cities. We believe that all followers of Jesus have been sent in the same way that Jesus was sent (John 20:21), to be agents of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:11-21), bearers of the good news of the gospel (Matt 5:14, Mark 16:15), servant leaders (Mark 10:45), and disciple-makers in their context (Matt 28:19-20). In other words, all believers are called to be missionaries.

Our response to this calling is this: we are seeking to plant and resource core missionary families in neighborhoods throughout our cities who are intentionally living everyday life on mission together. These core missionary families form the foundation of each Missional Community, in which other individuals and families join them weekly to explore the truth of God’s word and to do gospel-centered ministry in the place where they live.

As a result, the Missional Community is essentially a mission team that is pursuing specific goals for gospel transformation in a defined neighborhood. Area pastors shepherd the core missionary families and Missional Communities in their area. Area Pastors

Nearly 450,000 people live in the Shreveport/Bossier metro area, and no fewer than five cities are represented within the collective of Covenant Church. Instead of having a team of pastors who all serve within the same geographical area, we have area pastors, who are tasked with providing missional leadership to families and missional communities within specific cities. If you are new to Covenant Church, contact the area pastor in your city to learn more about what God is doing and to get connected to a local Missional Community.
